DiuMitra Cookie Policy
DiuMitra’s Cookie Policy explains how cookies and similar technologies may be used when you visit our website, open chat features, use online learning resources or access booking and enquiry tools. It explains essential functions, analytics and optional tracking, the choices available to you and how cookie information relates to your privacy rights.

1. About this Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy applies to the DiuMitra – Travel & Visa Advisory website at https://diumitra.com/ and to its website features where cookies or similar technologies are used. It should be read with the DiuMitra Privacy Policy, which explains how personal information is handled more generally.
DiuMitra provides community-led travel information, general guidance, signposting and access to other services and learning resources. You do not have to agree to unrelated advertising or optional monitoring simply to read our general information pages.
2. What are cookies and similar technologies?
A cookie is a small file stored by your browser when you visit a website. It may help a website remember an account session, a selection you made or an identifier connected with your visit.
Similar technologies can include browser local storage, session storage, tracking pixels, scripts, tags and device-identification methods. The UK rules on storing or accessing information on a device can apply even when the technology is not called a cookie and even when the information is not directly linked to your name.
A session technology generally lasts for a visit or browser session. A persistent technology may remain for longer, unless it expires or you remove it. Its name and duration alone do not determine whether consent is required; the purpose and actual operation matter.
3. How DiuMitra website technologies are grouped
Different features involve different purposes. The following table explains the categories that can be relevant to the DiuMitra website; it does not mean that every category is active on every page.
Purpose | Examples of use | How the UK consent rules apply |
|---|---|---|
Essential website operations | Security, account sign-in, maintaining a requested checkout or protecting an enquiry form | May qualify for a legal exception where genuinely necessary for a service you request |
Preferences and accessibility | Remembering a chosen language, display setting or similar preference | A limited appearance or functionality exception may apply if its conditions are met; otherwise consent may be required |
Aggregate website statistics | Counting visits, understanding page usage and finding website problems | A narrow statistical purposes exception may apply when all its conditions are met, including an easy way to object |
Individual visitor tracking | Linking an identifier to page history, returning visits, chatbot engagement or a visitor profile | Requires separate assessment; tracking individual visitors for non-exempt purposes generally requires prior consent |
Advertising and campaign tracking | Advertising identifiers, retargeting, conversion pixels or personalised adverts | Prior consent is generally required for non-exempt storage or access |
Embedded and external features | Video players, maps, social features, external payment or chat widgets | Depends on whether the embedded technology accesses or stores information and whether an exception applies |
A single technology can serve more than one purpose. Where it has a non-exempt purpose, that use must not be treated as automatically exempt just because it also supports an essential function.
4. Essential website functions
Some technologies are needed to deliver an online function you actively request. Depending on the features enabled, these may support a secure login, preserve the contents of a checkout, protect a form against misuse or remember a security-related session.
The exception for strictly necessary storage is not a general permission to track visitors. A technology used to record marketing interests, build browsing profiles or measure individual users is not automatically essential merely because it is bundled with a website plugin.
You can block certain essential technologies in your browser, but the associated function may stop working correctly. General website content should not be made conditional on consenting to unrelated non-essential tracking.
5. Analytics and the 2026 statistical purposes exception
Website statistics can help explain which pages are used, which features are difficult to navigate and where technical problems occur. DiuMitra may use analytics features for these purposes, depending on the technology currently enabled.
Under the UK’s current rules, a limited statistical purposes exception may allow storage or access without prior cookie consent when its sole purpose is collecting statistical information about use of a website or service in order to improve it. The exception requires clear information, a simple and free means of objecting and compliance with its other conditions.
This is not a blanket exemption for analytics platforms. It does not cover storing identifiable visitor histories for monitoring, using data for advertising or profiling individuals, and it does not remove UK GDPR obligations where personal information is involved.
If a statistical technology does not meet every applicable condition, valid prior consent is needed before its non-exempt storage or access. The same principle applies where an analytics provider also uses information for an additional purpose beyond the permitted exception.
6. Website chat, visitor history and returning visitors
DiuMitra may offer chat, automated enquiry flows or live human assistance. Depending on how a feature is configured, it may associate a conversation with a session identifier, page visits or the last page viewed, so that the enquiry can be understood in context.
There is an important difference between keeping information necessary to operate a conversation you deliberately open and using device storage to identify or monitor somebody across pages before they start a conversation. The latter must be considered separately for UK cookie and data-protection purposes and cannot automatically be described as strictly necessary.
If a chat or visitor-tracking feature uses device storage or access for individual-level tracking and no legal exception applies, valid prior consent is required. A chatbot opening automatically, a returning-visitor label or an agent viewing an individual’s journey does not itself create consent.
Chat messages and enquiry records may also be personal information, whether or not a cookie is involved. The DiuMitra Privacy Policy explains the broader handling of communications and your privacy rights.
7. Account, learning and digital-product functions
Where learning or other account-based features are offered, cookies or session technology may be used to keep you signed in, maintain access to your chosen course, remember a purchase step or protect an account from misuse. A payment processor may also use technologies on its own payment page.
Optional learning analytics, behavioural profiling, promotional tracking or third-party media embeds have a different purpose from maintaining an account session. They must be assessed separately and should not be labelled essential merely because they appear within the same learning plugin.
If children or young people access a course or community feature, any associated tracking requires particular care. A parent or carer can ask questions about how a feature works using our contact details below.
8. WhatsApp, videos and other third-party websites
DiuMitra may provide links to WhatsApp, travel suppliers, government portals, educational resources and other external websites. When you leave our website and open another service, that service may use its own cookies and apply its own privacy and cookie policies.
A normal link that opens WhatsApp does not, by itself, establish that WhatsApp sets cookies on DiuMitra’s website. The result can be different if an external widget, iframe, script, video player or other embedded tool is loaded within one of our pages.
Third-party features should be evaluated according to what actually loads on your device, not merely the provider’s name. You should check the external provider’s notices before creating an account, making a payment or sharing sensitive documents there.
9. When cookie consent is required
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, prior consent is generally needed before storing or accessing information on your device unless the use qualifies for a specific exception. When personal information is processed, the UK GDPR also applies.
Consent must be a genuine, informed and freely given choice for the particular purpose. It cannot be assumed from silence, pre-ticked options, continuing to browse or accepting general Terms and Conditions.
A suitable consent mechanism gives visitors understandable choices about non-exempt purposes. Where consent is required, the relevant technologies should not be activated before the choice has been made, and you must be able to withdraw consent as easily as you gave it.
10. Exceptions that permit some uses without consent
UK law recognises limited exceptions for transmitting communications, providing a strictly necessary requested service, certain statistical purposes, particular appearance or functionality preferences and emergency assistance. Only the exceptions relevant to the technology and its actual purpose may be used.
The statistical purposes and appearance exceptions additionally require clear information and an easy, free means of objecting. If you object, storage or access based on that exception must stop unless another valid basis or condition applies to a separate purpose.
An exception under cookie rules is not necessarily an exemption from data-protection law. If personal information is processed, the applicable UK GDPR transparency, lawful-basis and rights requirements still need to be met.
11. How to manage cookies and preferences
Where the website presents a cookie notice or preferences control, you can use the options it provides to accept, reject or customise optional uses and to change a previous choice. The available categories must reflect the technologies the website actually operates.
You may also review, block or remove cookies and site storage using your browser’s privacy settings. Doing so may sign you out, clear settings or interrupt a checkout or course session. Browser settings alone are not always a valid substitute for a website’s own consent mechanism.
For concerns about a specific technology or the way a preference is applied, contact privacy@diumitra.com or use our contact page. An email enquiry is not a substitute for the website obtaining valid consent in advance where the law requires it.
12. What information should a cookie listing show?
The cookies and similar technologies operating on a website can change with plugin settings, the particular page, whether you are logged in and whether you have chosen to use an external feature. Any individual technology in use should be identified clearly by its name or identifier, provider, purpose, whether it is first- or third-party, duration and the applicable consent or exception arrangement.
For example, an account-session cookie, an optional advertising pixel and a returning-visitor identifier are not interchangeable simply because all three help a website function. Their different uses must be explained accurately and controlled in line with the law.
If you would like information about a specific cookie or storage technology you encounter on DiuMitra, contact us with its name and the page where you noticed it. Do not send passwords, payment-card details or identity documents to report a cookie concern.
13. How cookies relate to personal data
Some identifiers and usage records can be personal information, particularly when they can be linked to an account, enquiry, device, chat record or visitor history. Such information must be handled under applicable data-protection law, even if a website uses an exception to the cookie-consent requirement.
Our Privacy Policy explains how personal information may be collected, used, retained and shared, as well as the rights available to you. Information gathered through website tools must not be reused for unrelated marketing or supplier disclosures merely because the visitor used the website.
14. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this policy when website features, integrations or applicable requirements change. A changed policy does not retrospectively create consent for a newly added non-exempt purpose; a fresh choice is required where the law calls for one.
