Life in the UK: Try a Few Revision Questions
These examples are original educational questions, not real Home Office examination questions. Open each one to check the answer and explanation.
1. Which four countries form the United Kingdom?
The Republic of Ireland is a separate country. It is not part of the United Kingdom.
2. What are the two Houses of the UK Parliament?
The House of Commons consists of elected Members of Parliament; the House of Lords is the second chamber.
3. Which institution is the devolved legislature for Scotland?
It legislates on devolved matters within its competence. The UK Parliament also continues to have responsibilities across the UK.
These three questions are free revision examples, not a timed mock. Prepare for the real test using the official Life in the UK guidance and recommended handbook.

Life in the UK and Driving Theory: Exam Formats
The two assessments test different knowledge and have different official rules. Use the formats below only for the named examination types.
| Official exam | Multiple-choice questions | Time | Pass requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Life in the UK Test | 24 | 45 minutes | 18 correct answers (75%) |
| Great Britain car theory test: multiple-choice part | 50 | 57 minutes | 43 correct answers |
For the Great Britain car theory test, you must pass both the multiple-choice and hazard perception parts. The car hazard perception pass mark is 44 out of 75. The figures above are for the GB car test, not other vehicle categories. Check current GOV.UK guidance; Northern Ireland candidates should check nidirect for local arrangements.
How to Get More from Online Practice Tests
Use your answers to plan revision rather than repeating tests until you recognise the questions. A sensible routine alternates practising and studying.
Choose one topic
Start with a subject relevant to the exam you are preparing for, such as UK history or safe driving rules.
Attempt questions
Answer independently first. For a timed mock, check the actual format, timer and scoring before you start.
Review the reasoning
Read each available explanation, compare it with the authoritative material and identify anything unclear.
Repeat after revision
Return to the weak topic after studying it. Track your improvement where progress features are available.
Practice Tests vs Self-Paced Courses
A course introduces knowledge through structured lessons; a practice test checks your understanding. Select the right learning route for your situation.
| Practice Tests | Self-Paced Courses |
|---|---|
| Start with questions or exam-style assessments | Start with organised learning objectives and lessons |
| Review mistakes and identify revision needs | Learn ideas through explanations and exercises |
| Useful before a knowledge assessment or when checking readiness | Useful when learning a new subject or developing a skill |
| Available assessment features vary by activity | Course access and study tools vary by course |
